1. Sponsor
Each Motiw8 challenge (“Competition”) is sponsored and administered by Motiw8 (“Sponsor”), a company registered in the Republic of Lithuania, European Union.
Contact: legal@motiw8.com
2. Nature of Competition — Skill-Based, Not Gambling
Motiw8 competitions are skill-based fitness challenges. They are NOT gambling, lotteries, sweepstakes, or games of chance.
- All outcomes are determined solely by each participant’s verified fitness performance (weight loss percentage, steps walked, consistency).
- No element of chance, randomness, dice, cards, lottery draws, or luck-based mechanics contributes to results.
- Winners are ranked by measurable, verified fitness metrics.
- Motiw8 challenges are competitions of personal performance. You pay an entry fee to take part, and whether you receive a prize — and how much — depends on how your own verified performance ranks against the other participants who complete the challenge, under a payout scale published before you join. Nothing about that ranking is decided by chance: it is decided entirely by verified fitness performance.
- Strict verification systems (automated AI analysis, manual review, liveness detection) ensure fair competition and prevent fraud.
3. Eligibility
To participate in a Motiw8 competition, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have a valid Motiw8 account with a verified email address.
- Accept the Motiw8 Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.
- Be medically able to participate in fitness activities (consult a healthcare professional if in doubt).
- For paid challenges: have a valid payment method accepted by Stripe.
- For steps challenges with stakes: meet automated data-quality eligibility requirements (minimum tracking history, automatic step recording via connected device).
- Reside in a jurisdiction where participation is not prohibited by law.
Employees, officers, and directors of the Sponsor and their immediate family members are eligible to participate but are not eligible for payouts from competitions they administer.
4. Void Where Prohibited
Participation in paid competitions is void where prohibited or restricted by applicable law.
It is each participant’s sole responsibility to determine whether participation complies with their local, state, provincial, and national laws. Paid challenges and payouts may vary by region based on Stripe availability and local regulations.
Users in jurisdictions where paid skill-based competitions are restricted may still participate in free (no-stake) challenges.
5. How to Enter
- Download the Motiw8 app from the Apple App Store.
- Create an account and complete age verification.
- Accept the Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy, and Fair Play Rules.
- Browse or create a challenge (weight loss or steps).
- Join the challenge and, for paid competitions, pay the stake amount via Stripe at the time of entry.
- Submit baseline evidence within the required window (weight-loss challenges).
No alternative method of entry exists. Entry requires use of the Motiw8 app.
6. Competition Periods
Each competition has a defined duration set at creation time. Typical durations range from 1 to 6 months. The exact start date, end date, and submission deadlines are displayed in the app before entry.
Key deadlines:
- Baseline submission: No earlier than 24 hours before challenge start; no later than 48 hours after challenge start.
- Final submission: By 23:59:59 in the participant’s local time zone on the final day of the challenge.
- Weekly check-ins: Optional unless specified by challenge rules.
Late baseline or final submissions result in automatic disqualification (“DNQ” — Did Not Qualify).
What counts as a starting baseline
Weight-loss challenges. A photo of yourself on a scale showing a readable weight, taken within the submission window and accepted by our verification.
Body-fat challenges. A body-fat reading from an accepted method, submitted with the photo evidence described in the Terms & Conditions, Section 10 (Evidence You Must Submit), taken within the submission window and accepted by our verification.
Steps challenges. A connected step-tracking source, linked before the challenge starts, that has reported at least one full day of data. If your source is connected but has never reported, you do not have a starting baseline.
If your submission is rejected, we tell you and you can submit again while the window is open. If the window closes with nothing accepted, you have no starting baseline.
7. Stakes, Fees, and Prize Pool
7.1 Stake Payment
Stakes are charged immediately at the moment of joining a paid challenge via Stripe. Card information is never stored by Motiw8.
7.2 Platform Fees
- Standard users: 20% platform fee deducted from their stake amount.
- Premium subscribers: 0% fee (full stake goes to prize pool).
Fees cover verification, fraud prevention, infrastructure, and payout processing.
7.3 Prize Pool Formation
The prize pool for each competition is formed from the net stakes (after platform fees) of all participants. Entry fees are paid to the Sponsor and processed by Stripe. Prizes are an obligation the Sponsor owes to participants who place, and are paid out through Stripe once results are final.
7.4 Cancellation and Refund
You can leave within 24 hours of joining for a full refund of your stake, whether or not the challenge has started. After 24 hours, once the challenge is running, the stake is forfeited to the prize pool. If a challenge is cancelled before it starts, all participants are refunded in full. EU/EEA consumers also have a statutory right of withdrawal. See the Refund Policy for full details.
8. Determination of Winners
8.1 Weight-Loss Challenges
The metric is percentage of body weight lost:
(Baseline Weight − Final Weight) ÷ Baseline Weight × 100
The weight that counts toward your score is capped at a healthy ceiling that scales with challenge length: 12% (1 month), 15% (2 months), 20% (3 months), and 25% (6 months). Loss beyond the cap does not increase your score.
Each valid weekly check-in adds a +1% bonus to your score, up to a maximum of +20% (the bonus is capped at 20 weekly check-ins). Your final score is therefore:
min(Percent Weight Lost, Cap) × (1 + Weekly Bonus)
Weekly check-ins are a bonus, not a qualifier — missing them does not disqualify you, it only forgoes the bonus. Penalties apply for missing evidence, failed liveness checks, or inconsistent data.
8.2 Body-Fat (Premium) Challenges
The metric is percentage of body fat lost:
(Baseline Body-Fat % − Final Body-Fat %)
Body-fat loss is not capped. The same weekly bonus applies — each valid weekly check-in adds +1%, up to a maximum of +20% — so the final score is:
(Percent Body Fat Lost) × (1 + Weekly Bonus)
Two-tier verification: your baseline and final measurements are certified laboratory body-composition tests (both from the same certified laboratory). Optional weekly check-ins are ordinary scale weigh-ins — there is no weekly lab requirement. Weekly check-ins earn the bonus only; the winner is decided on percentage of body fat lost.
8.3 Steps Challenges
Winners are ranked by verified step metrics sourced automatically from Apple HealthKit or compatible fitness trackers. Scoring options include total steps, percentage improvement over personal baseline, and consistency. Manual step entries are not accepted for paid challenges.
8.4 Tie-Breaking
Ties are resolved in order by: (1) highest final score, (2) most weekly check-ins, (3) earliest final submission.
9. Prize Distribution
The number of winners and their share of the prize pool depends on the number of qualified participants at settlement time:
- Zero qualified participants: No prize is awarded. The pool is retained by the Sponsor — see Section 11 (Disqualification).
- 1–5 qualified participants (Micro): 1st place receives 100% of the prize pool.
- 6–20 qualified participants (Small): Top 3 receive 50% / 30% / 20%.
- 21–50 qualified participants (Medium): Top 5 receive 40% / 25% / 15% / 10% / 10%.
- >50 qualified participants (Large): Top 10 receive 40% / 25% / 15%, with ranks 4–10 splitting the remaining 20% equally.
Tiers are evaluated at the time of settlement, not at challenge creation. Disqualifications may change the applicable tier.
10. Verification
All submissions undergo automated and, where necessary, manual verification:
- Automated: AI-powered OCR, face matching, liveness detection, metadata analysis, duplicate detection, and fraud scoring.
- Manual: Triggered when AI flags abnormalities, evidence is unclear, or a user files an appeal.
- Lab verification (premium challenges): Baseline and final body-fat tests must come from the same certified laboratory. The Sponsor may contact the laboratory to verify authenticity.
11. Disqualification
Participants may be disqualified for:
- Manipulated evidence (photos, videos, metadata)
- Using someone else’s identity, body, or scale
- Artificially manipulated weights or hydration manipulation
- Liveness check failure
- Reusing previously submitted photos or videos
- Unrealistic or suspicious step spikes
- Failure to submit required baseline or final evidence
- Failure to complete KYC for payouts when required
- Lab document falsification or refusal of lab verification consent
- Any violation of the Terms & Conditions or Fair Play Rules
Disqualified participants forfeit their stake. Forfeiture does not depend on someone else winning: a participant forfeits because they did not qualify, regardless of how many others did. If any participants remain qualified, forfeited stakes are added to the prize pool and distributed among them under the tier table in Section 9. If no participants qualify: no prize is awarded, no stake is returned, and the Sponsor retains the entire pool, including all stakes. We expect this to be rare and we do not design for it: qualifying does not require you to hit any target — only to submit on time and genuinely, without being disqualified — and a single qualified participant receives the entire Micro-tier prize.
Example. Eight people join a 60-day weight-loss challenge with a €25 stake. By settlement, all eight have been disqualified — several missed the final-measurement submission window, one failed the liveness check, one reused a previously submitted photo. Because zero participants remain qualified, there is no one to rank and no prize to award, and the pool is retained by Motiw8. Nobody is refunded.
If our verification goes wrong. These forfeiture rules assume we have scored you correctly. If your submission was rejected, missed, or mis-scored because of a fault on our side — including an error in our automated reading of a photo, or a failure in our systems during the submission window — then you have not been disqualified and nothing is forfeited.
Tell us and we will re-score your entry. If it is too late to re-score, we will refund your stake in full.
12. Notification of Winners
Winners are notified via:
- In-app push notification
- In-app challenge results screen
- Email to the address associated with the winner’s account
Payouts are executed within 7 days after the final ranking is published, subject to completion of Stripe Connect onboarding and any required KYC verification.
13. Payout Delivery
To receive payouts, winners must complete Stripe Connect account setup (onboarding) in the app. Payouts are delivered via Stripe Connect directly to the winner’s connected bank account.
Motiw8 may hold payouts if:
- Stripe Connect onboarding is incomplete
- KYC verification is pending or failed
- Fraud review is in progress
- An appeal is pending
14. Tax Responsibility
Winners are solely responsible for reporting and paying any applicable taxes on their winnings in accordance with their local tax laws. The Sponsor does not withhold taxes on behalf of winners unless required by law. Winners may be required to provide tax identification information for payouts exceeding applicable thresholds.
15. Appeals
Participants may appeal:
- Baseline verification decisions
- Final submission decisions
- Disqualification decisions
Appeals. If you disagree with a decision about your submission, your qualification, or your placement, you can appeal. Email support@motiw8.com within 30 days of the day we notify you of the decision. Tell us which decision you are appealing and why, and attach anything you think supports your case.
Wherever it is practical, your appeal will be reviewed by someone other than the person who made the original decision. We will give you a reasoned answer in writing within 14 days, and we will tell you what evidence we relied on.
Our answer is our final word in our own process. It does not affect your legal rights. If you are not satisfied you can take the matter to the State Consumer Rights Protection Authority (Valstybinė vartotojų teisių apsaugos tarnyba, vvtat.lt), which handles consumer disputes out of court free of charge, or to a court. Nothing in these rules limits those rights.
16. Responsibility
16.1 What we are responsible for. We are responsible for running the competition as described in these rules: verifying submissions and scoring them against the published criteria, calculating and paying prizes correctly, and handling your personal data lawfully. If we get any of that wrong, we will put it right — by re-scoring, by paying what you are owed, or by refunding you.
16.2 What we are not responsible for. We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not caused by us, or that we could not reasonably have foreseen when you joined. That includes: injury or health consequences arising from how you choose to train, eat, or exercise; the acts or omissions of other participants; failures of your own device, internet connection, wearable, or a third-party app; and events outside our reasonable control.
16.3 What we never exclude. Nothing in these rules excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our fault, for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence (Civil Code Article 6.252), for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, nothing in these rules affects the mandatory rights you have under the law of the country where you live.
17. Privacy
Personal information collected in connection with competitions is governed by the Motiw8 Privacy Policy. Health data is processed in accordance with the Health Data Processing Notice. Biometric data used for verification is governed by the Biometric Addendum.
18. Amendments
When these rules apply. These rules apply to challenges you join on or after 2026-08-03. If you joined a challenge before that date, that challenge continues under the rules published as v1.1.0 on 2026-07-10, which you can read at the archived version. If we change these rules again, the same principle applies: the rules that count for your challenge are the ones in force when you joined it. The Sponsor reserves the right to amend these Official Rules at any time to improve fairness, comply with applicable law, or prevent abuse. Material changes will be communicated via the app.
19. Governing Law and Disputes
These Official Rules are governed by the laws of the Republic of Lithuania. Any disputes arising from or related to these rules shall be resolved in accordance with the dispute resolution provisions set forth in the Motiw8 Terms & Conditions.
For US-based participants, disputes are subject to binding arbitration under the AAA (American Arbitration Association) rules as specified in the Terms & Conditions.
